To celebrate both National Ice Cream Day (July 21) and Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is collaborating with Sanrio to introduce a special Hello Kitty flavor that will be available for just that one day.
The Yummy Berry White Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream, as Van Leeuwen’s Hello Kitty flavor is called, will mix in “swirls of sweet red raspberry jam” into the white chocolate ice cream as a reference to the Sanrio character’s bow. It will also have “chunks of” truffle brownies.
Van Leeuwen says that both companies will donate 50% of the profits to charity to “underscore Hello Kitty’s positive message of friendship and kindness, and Van Leeuwen’s mission to make you feel good.”
Additionally, there will be a pop-up event at the Van Leeuwen Tribeca shop, also on July 21, that will feature Hello Kitty-themed sundaes and shakes on top of the special flavor, as well as limited amounts of commemorative merchandise. The merchandise includes a friendship bracelet from Little Worlds Project that will be handed out via free giveaways.
